ABOUT TMS

Tourism Management Society
Asian Institute of Tourism
Commonwealth Ave., Diliman, QC

The legacy of UP TMS was founded by the THE CRUSADES, a circle of friends formed by Carl Trocio, Rommel Calimlim, and students from the university in 1995. After a while, Trocio and Marlon Castor, decided to have the group recognized by the college and the university. The Tourism Management Society was finally born on February 9, 1996 and recognized in July 1997. Its early members composed of Mel Panganiban, Dennis Lopez, Jake Hizon, Richard Ronquillo, Mitzi Canafranca, Carly Macabuhay, and PJ Ferrer. Trocio became the first president from 1996 to mid-1997. He was followed by Castor (2nd semester 1997) and Hizon (1998).

Our Projects:

UP TMS, since 1996, has endeavored in bringing service not only to its members in the fulfillment of its mission but also to the UP community starting with the Institute. Quiz shows such as Quiztion Please were conducted as forms of fund-raising to finance charity contributions of certain foundations.

In September 2000, the organization held for the first time its Business Trip in Holiday Inn Resort Clark Field. The Business Trip was to become the banner event of UP TMS until 2006. The primary goal of this activity was to give exposure to students on hotel and restaurant operations. Entitled Business at Holiday, the 2000 Business Trip was attended by students from the Asian Institute of Tourism and the College of Home Economics.

Business Trips:

September 2000 "Business at Holiday" in the Holiday Inn Resort Clark Field

February 2001 "Business at Holiday II" in the same resort

September 2001 "2 Days and 1 Night in Paradise" in DJ Paradise Resort & Hotel, Bulacan

February 2002 "Sabik sa Subic" in Subic International Hotel, Zambales

September 2003 "Enchan 2, The Magic Returns" in Enchanted Kingdom, Laguna

Feb. & Mar. 2004 "TOUR-IT: The Roadless Connection between Tourism and Information Technology

September 2005 "Racket Attack! The 1st UP-AIT Badminton Tournament"

March 2005 "Tourism in the Eyes of the Youth" Photography and Essay Competition in Quezon City

The organization had sponsored symposia, medical missions, UPCAT reviews, and quiz shows along the years. It had even offered a package to Enchanted Kingdom in one of its anniversaries. UP TMS participates in semester Alternative Learning Classroom Experience by the University Student Council and in the UP FAIR.

In 2010, UP TMS became an accredited member of the Heritage Conservation Society.

Non-motorized Transport and Tourism
