TMS enters heritage tour operation

Feb 25--Who said it's only in Intramuros where you can find well-preserved colonial houses and heritage structures? Go through Taft Avenue and head to Pedro Gil. At the end of the road you should see the Baroque Sta. Ana Church. From there, UP TMS started its photography workshop and walking tour, LENTE: Paghango sa Nakraan.

With partners Lola Grande Foundation (LGF) and Fundacion Santiago, TMS aimed at developing Sta. Ana as a potential tourist destination within Metro Manila through the project. The organizers, headed by Michelle Manalac and Justine Lomboy, wanted to involve visual media such as the camera to discover the district's sites and history.

Attended by UP and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) students, the program was presided by talks from the partner organizations. Ms. Sylvia Lichauco of LGF, also speaker of TMS during its September heritage seminar in UP, made the introduction of Sta. Ana.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ivan Anthony Henares, a well-known heritage advocate and travel blogger, talked about the basics of heritage advocacy.

For the composition class, TMS invited Mr. Karlo de Leon to discuss the subject. His workshop was followed by a tour inside the age-old Camarin de la Virgen of the Sta. Ana Church, Taoist Temple, and the Lichauco House.

Mr. Estan Cabigas led the class on architectural photography for the afternoon. His workshop was followed by a tour in the 1895 Manila Boat Club and Leiva Street.

Lunch was served by Mariquit Restaurant.
